
This page will tell you a little bit about music education and performance programs offered by OYC. These include Miracle Choruses for children in grades 1-5, a percussion class at Hillcrest Elementary School , our Middle School Magic Chorus, and our Concert Chorus for high school students and young adults, ages 14-21.

OYC's All-City Miracle Chorus will rehearse on Tuesdays September 9–December 9, 2008 at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland, 685 14th St. at Castro. It will be led by the talented and engaging senior teacher Rhonda Crane.
Children in 1st and 2nd grade will rehearse from 4-5, and children in 3-5th grade will rehearse from 5:10-6:10.
The program will not meet on Tuesday, November 25.
There will be a special rehearsal for members of the combined Miracle Choruses on Saturday, November 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Oakland, 2501 Harrison St., Oakland and one evening during the week of December 8.

Our fall session concert is December 13 at 7 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Oakland, 2501 Harrison St., Oakland. All Miracle Chorus members are invited to participate in this event featuring OYC singers of all ages as well as special guests. Parents and students will receive more information about rehearsals and attire, as well as permission slips closer to that time.

OYC's fall session will rehearse on Mondays, September 8–November 17. This class is for Chabot Elementary School students only.
Children in 1st and 2nd grade will rehearse from 3-3:50, and children in 3-5th grade will rehearse from 4-4:50.
The program will not meet on November 3.
If you plan to also register your child for the Winter Session, be aware that there will be a special rehearsal for members of the combined Miracle Choruses on Saturday, November 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Oakland, 2501 Harrison St., Oakland and again one evening during the week of December 8 for children in the Winter Session only (this registration form will be available in November).

Children in Kindergarten and 1st grade will rehearse from 2:55-3:40, and children in 2nd-5th grade will rehearse from 3:45-4:30.
The program will not meet on November 24.

There is a sliding fee for this program, between $95-$140. You may choose an amount that is appropriate for your family.

OYC’s Middle School Magic singers get to sing music of many different types, meet new friends, travel, learn new things, and have a great time!
Middle School Magic will be led for the 5th year by La Nell Martin, Director of OYC’s Choral Programs. Children entering 6th through 8th grade are eligible. No audition is required for Middle School Magic.
OYC’s Middle School Magic Chorus rehearses Mondays and Wednesdays 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland, 685 14th St. at Castro, beginning September 15.
There will be additional rehearsals during the evenings the week of December 8. More information about these is forthcoming

Magic performs in two major concerts annually, this year on December 13, 2008 and May 9, 2009. This exciting event features OYC singers of all ages. Additionally, Middle School Magic participates annually in state-wide competitions at a place to be determined in the fall.

OYC’s award-winning Concert Chorus has been wowing audiences for nearly 35 years, and has performed all over the world, with special guest artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Linda Tillery, SoVoSo, and Keith Terry. American Idol finalist La Toya London and singer Goapele are both alumni of OYC, and say they got a great musical foundation and met lifetime friends here.

Concert Chorus is directed by La Nell Martin, Director of OYC’s Choral Programs.
OYC’s Concert Chorus rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 pm – 6:15 pm at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland, 685 14th St. at Castro, beginning September 16.
There will be additional rehearsals during the evenings the week of December 8. More information about these is forthcoming.
If singers miss 2 rehearsals, a Friday night make-up rehearsal is required before returning to Chorus.
Missing excessive rehearsals may result in dismissal from Chorus.

Concert Chorus performs in two major concerts annually, this year on December 13, 2008 and May 9, 2009. This exciting event features OYC singers of all ages, along with special guests and OYC alumni. Additionally, Concert Chorus may participate in a spring tour, if fundraising goals are reached!
Additional local performances are also required. Singers must participate in at least 5 of these performances annually. Missing performances may result in dismissal from Chorus.
